Meow! Do you have a cat at home or know someone with a cat? Cats are very unique pets with a bunch of skills like no other animal. Here are a few fascinating facts about cats! Cats sleep for 14 hours a day to conserve energy. They have night vision and can see very well in the dark. They like to have a bath and stay clean by licking their fur with their rough tongues. Cats twist their bodies while they fall so that they can always land on their feet. Also, did you know that there are over 500 million purrrrfect felines in the world today? That’s a lot of cat hair!

We think cats are really cool so we made a cat craft for you to enjoy. Since cats in real life are all so unique with stripes or spots or solid colors, you can make your cat with any colors and markings that inspire you. Get ready to get creative and have some fun with cats.

Things you’ll need: 

• 2 sheets of construction paper
• Craft paint
• Googly eyes
• Fork or old toothbrush to paint with
• Glue stick
• Scissors
• Black marker
• 3” to 4” circle for tracing, like an old jar lid

Fold a piece of construction paper in half lengthwise. Draw the legs and curves of the cat’s body with the folded edge at the top. On the second sheet of construction paper, trace a circle with your jar lid for the head, two triangles for the ears and a long tail. 

Cut out all of the shapes you made. (Make sure the cat’s body remains connected on the folded edge, just like a greeting card.)

Now you can glue the triangle ears behind the circle so they poke out. Glue the googly eyes in place. Using your black marker, draw a nose, whiskers and mouth. You can fill in the ears, too. 

Unfold your kitty’s body and lie it flat on a protected surface for painting. Now comes the creative part! You can use a fork to stamp on some cool stripes, an old toothbrush to make a furry texture or anything you can find that will make a fun texture! Does your cat have spots? Try crumpling up some foil and dipping it in paint for a circle stencil. Make some markings on the tail and face as well.

Once all of your paint is dry, you can assemble your feline friend using a glue stick and some strips of paper. The tail can be stuck down underneath the front piece of the cat’s body. Next, connect the head to the body using a strip of paper folded into a “z” shape with glue on either end. This will make the head bobble. TIP: You can make a second “z” shape and attach it to the inside of your cat to make it super sturdy!

Who else loves to ride their bicycle? We sure do! A helmet is the most important part of getting ready to ride, so we thought we’d help you make it a little more fun with this super friendly dog design. It’s simple to make and fun to show off to your friends! Arf arf! 

Important note: these decorations are not permanent and will not harm the surface of the helmet. Round adhesive fasteners are removable if you choose to switch up or remove your helmet design.

Things you’ll need

• Hook and loop round adhesive fasteners
• Sheet of paper 
• Large plastic eyes
• Glue stick 
• Permanent markers 
• Fun foam
• Scissors 

First, let’s make your ears! You can use your sheet of paper to draw a template and scale up your ears and muzzle so they match the size of your helmet. Does your dog have big ears? Little ears? It’s up to you!  We made these ears by drawing a large triangular shape with rounded edges and drew an oval shape for the muzzle.

Cut out the template and trace the shapes onto your fun foam. Cut out all of the shapes!

With a permanent marker, draw the mouth and whiskers. Draw and cut out a small black triangle shape for your nose.

Add a tongue if you like. Glue the nose and tongue into place with a glue stick.

Here are all of your pieces! Tip: If you don’t have large plastic eyes, you could make some circles with fun foam. Ready to stick?

To assemble, add your adhesive fasteners to the back of each shape.

Stick the fasteners together with the sticky side up.

Press them onto your helmet to stick them in place.

Ready to make a puppet of the Peekaboo Cat that can really play peekaboo? Here’s another version of the Peekaboo Cat puppet – all dressed up for Christmas!

You need:

• This template
• White Bristol board
• Four skinny popsicle sticks
• Scissors
• craft knife
• Glue stick
• Glue gun

Steps

1. Print out the template.  With a glue stick glue the template onto to the bristle board. Cut out the cat’s body and its arms. This template includes two sets of arms so that Peekaboo Cat’s sleeves can be double-sided. Sandwich them together during this step.

2. Use a craft knife to cut the two little arm slits in the cat’s body. Be careful to protect your surface underneath.

3.  Feed the arms through the holes paws facing forward adjust until paws are covering the cat’s eyes.  Make sure that Peekaboo Cats heart-shaped paw pads will touch the cat’s face when raised. Turn the cat over facing down on the table.  Next, apply hot glue down the exposed length of the back of the two arms than press popsicle sticks onto the glue.

4. Use the glue gun to glue the top half of the popsicle stick to the bottom back of the cat’s body. This is the stick that you’ll hold to control the body.

5. Use the glue gun to glue another popsicle stick sideways across the bottom of both arm sticks ends connecting them together.

You’re done! To perform your puppet, hold a popsicle stick in each hand. Use one stick to hold the body upright. When you hold the other stick upright too, the cat covers its eyes with its paws. But when you tilt the stick up and out, the paws come down. Peekaboo!
