Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!

• Encourage little ones to pretend to be a snowman and follow along with the movements as they sing!
• This is also a great song to introduce some simple clothing and parts of the body vocabulary, as well as some simple counting up to three. In this song we introduce buttons, a hat and scarf, and the body part vocabulary eyes and nose. Ask your students what other parts of the body a snowman might have, like arms and eyes. Or what other things a snowman might wear. For more winter clothing vocabulary, pair this song with Put On Your Boots. For more parts of the body vocabulary and finger play, try One Little Finger.
• Include this song in a unit about weather to represent the colder months.
• For a fun game, try playing dance freeze with this song. Snowmen are frozen outside in the cold, so this is a fun song to play this game with. Have your students get up and pretend to be snowmen. When the music is playing, they can move and dance like snowmen, but when the music stops, they have to freeze, and pretend to be real snowmen frozen in the snow.
• For another fun movement game, have all your students pretend to be magic snowmen and stand at one end of the room. Then pick one student to stand at the opposite end of the room facing the wall. When that student’s back is turned, the snowmen magically come to life and start to move towards the other wall, making their way closer to the student who’s back is turned. But at any moment, the student can turn around and then all the snowmen have to be still. They can’t show their magic and move in front of other people. If the student catches any snowmen moving, they have to go back to the other wall and start again. Keep going until all the snowmen have made it to the other side.
• If it snows where you live, try making a snowman outside! Sing the song as you create your snowman with all the different parts in the song and at the end to celebrate your new snowman friend.
• If you don’t get snow where you are, you can try making some play snow! You can even make snowballs to make a mini snowman with it!
• Another great activity is making a snowman craft. We make ours into a puppet you can use to play along to the song!

Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!

• This song teaches some really simple, useful language that parents and teachers can use with their children right away. It’s a great song to play anytime little ones are getting ready to go outside during the colder months. Play it at the end of the day when everyone is getting ready to go home, or at home at the beginning of the day while getting ready for school.
• Many little ones might put up a struggle when they have to put on their heavy winter gear like mittens and coats. Singing a song while getting ready can make it feel much more fun! You can play it in the background, or sing the verse for whatever item they are putting on.
• Once your students understand the language ‘put on your…’ you can use the phrase for many other things not sung in the song, like mittens or snow pants.
• This is also a great song for role playing. You can act out the song with gestures or use real clothes items as props!
• Try using the children’s own items that they wear to school and put them in a pile in front of each student. As the song plays, have them find that item and put it on. Challenge them to have the item of clothing on by the time the verse ends. This is great practice for them to get ready and then they’ll be able to do it in record time when it’s time to get ready in real life.
• You can also have your students dress up dolls or paper dolls for the winter weather. Give each student a piece of paper with a stick figure on it. Using crayons or markers, have them draw boots, a coat, a scarf and a hat onto the stick figure to get them all ready to go outside.

Try some of these ideas in the classroom or at home!

• This is a wonderful song for children who are starting to get dressed by themselves. They can follow along with the song and act out getting dressed, or the song can be used in the morning when they are getting ready for the day. Little ones love showing you what they can do, and this song gives them plenty of opportunity to do that, and to practice trying it out for themselves.
• This song is great to introduce clothing vocabulary. When introducing the song, point to your shoes or t-shirt and have your student point to theirs. We like using real life items whenever possible when introducing new vocabulary.
• This is also a great song for role playing! Bring out some other pieces of clothing, and have your students pretend to get dressed! You can also have your students dress a stuffed animal or doll with all the clothing from the song.
• Try dividing your students into groups, and each group can sing a different verse. You can give each group a clothing prop, such as shoes or a jacket depending on what their verse is, so they can act out the action.
• Ask your students if there is anything else they do to get ready in the morning, before coming to school? Maybe they brush their teeth or eat breakfast. This song pairs well with other songs about getting ready too, such as Put On Your Shoes or the original This Is The Way.
