We’ve got a fun craft that’s a perfect excuse to get a little messy and make something special for someone special. How can we show our love and appreciation for Dad, Pop, Grandpa, Papa, Uncle, Brother, Friend, or Neighbor? With a super neat tie and shirt card made with teeny tiny fingerprints, of course!
Let’s get started.
Things you’ll need
- Construction paper, 2 colors
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Craft paint
- Pencil
- Black marker
- Googly eyes (optional)
First, fold one of your pieces of construction paper in half to make your card. To make the shirt collar, measure 1.25” down from the top of the card and make a small mark with your pencil. Next, use this mark to make two 1” horizontal cuts on either side.
Open up the card and cut away this section from the right side.
Now you can close up the card and fold the collar down.
Now it’s time to have some fun making the ties! Cut a strip of paper about 3” wide. Dip your finger in some craft paint and stamp it to make any kind of pattern you like. Fingerprints can easily be turned into animals, flowers, food, monsters, fish or something that might make your card personal.
Once the paint dries, use a marker to draw arms, legs, and eyes to finish your creation. (For this example, we made a lion, turtle, ice cream and dog pattern. Feel free to get inspired with our creations.)
When your tie pattern is all done, you can use your ruler and pencil to make a tie shape.
Cut out your tie. Here are some more ideas. (To make the monster tie, we added googly eyes. You can add all kinds of craft supplies and really get creative.)
Glue the top of the tie to the top of the shirt, then fold the lapels over and glue them in place as well. For a personal touch, you can draw a shirt pocket on your shirt and label it: Daddy, Pappy, Papa, Baba, or Name Here.
