Lotion bars are a great way to keep your skin hydrated and moisturized over the cold winter months. These little bars can be made in a variety of fun shapes and sizes. Lotion bars are made with butters, oils and waxes and they are best kept in an airtight jar in a cooler place, to hold their firmness and shape.
These make great gifts for teachers or stocking stuffers and the kids can help choose the scent and package them. Get creative with the labels!
Materials you will need
- Silicone mold
(can be found on Amazon and your local art supply store). - Microwave safe glass jar
- Dropper, optional
(Can be found in local craft store) - Small rubber spatula
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup Shea butter
- 1/3 cup Avocado Oil
(you can also use sweet almond oil or coconut oil) - 1/3 cup Candelilla wax
(you can also use beeswax) - 10 drops of essential oils, optional
Instructions
Step One:
Mix oil, butter and wax in one microwave safe jar. Using a microwave melt the ingredients in 30 seconds sessions until everything is well melted and blended together. This can also be done by using a double boiler over the stove top. Once all melted and mixed together let cool a little, then add the essential oil.
Step Two:
Carefully pour the hot melted mixture into the mold, set aside or pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes or until it gets hard. Once set, remove from the mold and package in a jar. I like putting the lotion bars in a glass jar they look great and are easy to reach each time I need one.
