We are learning to teach one of our favorite and playful preschool song for kids; “Where Is Baby?”! Here Caitie shares some fun activity ideas that you can use to teach this fun and original nursery rhyme from Super Simple Songs.
Try some of these ideas in the classroom or at home!
- This is a great song for just playing along with some of your youngest learners. Young babies especially will enjoy watching a grown up play along with the peekaboo gestures. You can also use props, like a colourful scarf to hide your face, or hide your little ones face.
- To practice the pronouns in the song, you can ask your students where specific students are, using their name. “Where is Sarah?” The class can point to Sarah and say “There she is!” Then Sarah can have a turn to ask the question and pick another student. “Where is Steve?” Then everyone points to Steve and says, “there he is!”. Then it’s Steve’s turn to ask the question.
- Once your students are familiar with using the vocabulary “where is…” and “there he or she is”, you can practice finding items in the classroom using “where is…” and “there it is”. For example, ask them, “where is the bookshelf?” and your students can point saying “there it is!”
- Try practicing the family vocabulary from the song by using family flashcards. You can hold up the card, point, and sing the song.
- You can also try hiding the flashcards around the room for your students to search for and find.
