Caitie is sharing tips for using the preschool song “Halloween ABC Song” in the classroom and at home for lots of fun learning with little ones. She has lots of great ideas! And she’ll lead us through the song using gestures – an excellent way to introduce a song to children. “Halloween ABC Song” is the perfect song to practice the alphabet during the spooky season of Halloween, and it’s a fun alternative to traditional versions of the ABCs.
Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!
- This is a great song to review the alphabet during the Halloween months! Try singing along in spooky voices, like a monster or a ghost!
- Whether it is Halloween or not, this song can be helpful when teaching the ABCs to little learners. Children love to hear the same song over and over, but mixing it up every now and then can be a good idea too. It also helps to check if your students are actually retaining information, instead of simply memorizing. Having the same content in a different context can help teachers understand if their students really understand the concept.
- For some fun letter review, try showing your students some Halloween themed flashcards, and point out the letters in each word, paying special attention to the letter each word starts with.
- Carving a pumpkin is a special Halloween activity. In our music video for this song, we showcase each letter in a glowing jack o’lantern. Have your students color a picture of a pumpkin and then draw a letter on it, like the first letter of their name or a letter of the alphabet. If you make enough letters you can encourage your students to work together to put the pumpkins in order to make the full alphabet, or make short words!
