Caitie is sharing tips for using the preschool song “At The North Pole” in the classroom and at home for lots of fun learning with little ones. She has lots of great ideas! And she’ll lead us through the song using gestures – an excellent way to introduce a song to children. “At The North Pole” is our Christmas version of Down By The Bay filled with silly Christmas rhymes that are great for practicing rhyming words and for making little ones laugh.
Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!
- At The North Pole is our Christmas version of the super silly song, Down By The Bay. Instead of being Down By The Bay, in this version we are At The North Pole. This is a great silly song to sing at Christmas time. All the rhymes are Christmas and holiday themed, making it a great song to celebrate the season.
- Try clapping on the words that rhyme so your students understand that they are connected. You can do this anytime you are using rhyming words!
- In our music video for At The North Pole, you’ll find some magical singing candy canes. We put together step-by-step instructions so you can make your own and use them to sing along to the song.
- For another fun art activity, have your students draw pictures of the silly scenes from the song. They can draw a bee decorating a tree, or a sleigh made out of hay. They can pick their favorite silly rhyme from the song to draw!
- As a group try coming up with other silly and simple rhymes, Christmas related or not. The teacher can start the rhyme and pause so the students can come up with a rhyming word. Did you ever see a cat wearing a… see what your students come up with, and don’t forget to clap on the special word so they know what word they should rhyme with!
