Caitie is sharing helpful tips for learning in the classroom or at home using the song Gingerbread House from Super Simple Songs! She sings the song and shows us gestures for the key vocabulary words, too! This is a great song to review household vocabulary during the holiday season – give it a try!
Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!
- Use your imagination to bring this song to life! Try creating a little scene of a room in a house within your classroom using a few items from the song, like a table, chair, and toys, and encourage your students to roleplay in the space pretending everything is made of gingerbread.
- This song is great for exploring the vocabulary of household items that are also in your classroom – point to them as you sing the song!
- You can also use the concept of the song to explore other vocabulary words, just by putting the word gingerbread in front of it. For example, you can point to a desk and say I live in a gingerbread house with a gingerbread… desk! Pause before saying the vocabulary word to see if your students say it first!
- Making gingerbread houses is a fun tradition at Christmas time. Talk to your students about traditions and ask them what special things they do with their family around this time of year. You talk about other holidays and how they are celebrated to explore cultural traditions outside of Christmas.
- We made a printable version of the gingerbread house from the music video so you can make one out of paper! Just cut out the pieces and glue them together.
- Make a gingerbread house drawing! Encourage your students to draw a gingerbread house and to include many of the elements from the song in their picture. Then sing the song together and point to the different parts of the picture as you sing.
