Looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift that is thoughtful, cool, and an instant keepsake to be displayed on the mantle for all to see? Look no further! These Mother’s Day Blossoms are sure to surprise and delight mom, with a beautiful photo of YOU in the centre of each flower.
You can make one flower per sibling, or you can make a flower that has a simple hand-written message inside to surprise mom! Let’s get started.
Things you’ll need
- Printed photo
- Construction paper
- Tissue paper
- Glue stick
- White craft glue
- Large jar lid 5”
- Small jar lid 2”
- Paper straw
- Craft paint brush
- Ribbon (optional)
Make a glue mixture by diluting one part glue with one third parts water and mix mix mix!
Pre-cut some tissue paper strips, squares, circles, hearts, and star shapes. Paint some glue mixture onto your bottle, use the wet brush to pick up a piece of tissue, and stick the shapes down. Add a layer of glue overtop as well. You can use one long strip to wrap a single color around your bottle, and layer shapes on top. Tip: using smaller shapes will help you avoid wrinkles as you work with the curve of the bottle.
To make the flower, start by tracing a large circle with a small circle inside it using your jar lids and a pencil on colored paper.
Mark the centre point. Use your ruler to draw lines dividing the flower in quarters then again into eight equal sections.
Draw rounded corners for the petal tips.
Use the small cap to trace a circle on the printed picture and cut it out.
Glue your photo to the centre of the flower and cut out the petals.
Starting from one side, fold in each flower petal. Tuck the last petal into the first to hold the bloom closed.
Flatten the tip of your paper straw and glue your bloom in place.
Add some extra tissue paper to the bottom of the vase to help hold the straw in place. You can cut out some green leaves and add them to the flower stem if you’re feeling fancy.
Mom can open each flower for a special Mother’s Day surprise! Happy Mother’s Day!
