We love… LOVE! Hearts are beautiful, simple shapes to take notice of on Valentine’s Day, as well as reviewing some traditional colors like red and pink. We love mobiles because they check all the boxes we want in a holiday themed craft:
- Fun family art project? Check!
- Cute as a gift? Check!
- Adorable seasonal decor? Check!
- WOW factor? Check!
So, if you’re feeling the love for this Valentine’s Day-themed mobile craft, let’s get hearted… Whoopsie! We mean let’s get started!
Things you’ll need
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Hole punch
- Glue stick
- Straw
- String
- Bamboo skewer
- Tape
Steps
To start, layer the colorful sheets of construction paper and cut out some squares in various sizes. (We used half a sheet of construction paper in four colors, and our hearts vary between 1” to 3” width.)
Fold the squares in half and cut out half of your heart shape. Open it up to reveal a heart! If you’re working with little ones, trace half of a heart for them with a pencil to make scissor skills the focus of this step.
Next, use a glue stick to make some clusters of hearts.
Use a hole punch to make a hole at the top of each cluster.
Now it’s time to make the hanger. First, tape the end of your string to the tip of a bamboo skewer.
Feed the bamboo skewer through a straw. We used a pink paper straw to match our Valentine hearts theme.
When you have string on either end of your straw, gather the two ends together.
Create a triangle and tie a knot at the top.
Make a heart composition! Once you have tied different lengths of string to each cluster of hearts, lay them out so you can see your mobile taking shape. You can add some extra hearts as well!
Attach the strings to the straw with a knot and trim the extra string. Hang your mobile from the ceiling and watch the hearts spin, spin, spin! Happy Valentine’s Day, Super Simple fam!
