We love plants! Learning about plants is a great way to introduce children to science and nature. How do roots and leaves grow? What do plants need to thrive? Let’s help little ones learn about plants in a super fun and memorable way.
Tobee, Milo, and Ben are excited to get some new hair. It’s a great idea to talk to children about what plants need in order to grow and where they should live in the home or garden before they begin this activity. Now let’s get started!
Things you’ll need
- Resource sheet
- 4 inch plant pots OR compostable paper cups ( these can go right in the garden)
- Seeds
- Seed starting potting mix
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Mod Podge (durable)
- Craft paint brush
Steps
Print out the resource sheet and cut out your Super Simple faces.
Glue your Super Simple face to the front of the pot using a glue stick.
Use Mod Podge to seal the image to the pot and protect it from moisture. If you want to add a second coat, make sure the first coat dries completely before adding the second.
Add potting mix to your pot.
Plant your seeds according to the instructions on the packet. Some seeds sprout faster than others. Anything in the cabbage family will sprout quickly. Radish seeds take about three days.
You can also have fun potting some small plants or succulents.
We made these cool sprout heads in compostable cups for a green version that can be planted right in the ground when the plants grow big enough. All you have to do before they go in the garden is use some scissors to carefully cut away the bottom of the cup.
Expert printing tip: printing these images on matte presentation paper will ensure a more permanent, long-lasting image, especially if you add two layers of durable Mod Podge. This isn’t necessary, however.
