Caitie is sharing helpful tips for learning in the classroom or at home using the song ABC Quack from Super Simple Songs! She sings the song and shows us how to play along! This a great song to review the alphabet and have fun doing it! Little ones will love to quack along!
Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!
- This musical game is a great tool to use when you’re teaching the alphabet! By randomly replacing letters with quacks, we are isolating each letter so we focus on the individual letters instead of the alphabet song as a whole. Often, students can blend letters together when singing the alphabet song, especially during L M N O P. When there is the possibility that each letter might be a quack instead, each letter stands alone.
- You can play the game by simply playing the song and music video and following along, or you can put the letters of the alphabet on the board and follow along as you point to the letters. You can point to all letters even if there is a quack sound, it will be a fun surprise!
- You can also try singing the song without the music to play the game anytime! Put the letters of the alphabet on the board and replace or cover a few of the letters with a picture of a duck. Start by covering only one or two letters with ducks. Then sing the alphabet song and follow along with the letters on the board. When you get to a duck, be sure to quack instead of saying that letter! You can move the ducks each time you play or add in more ducks for more of a challenge.
- You can play this game with something other than ducks to mix it up! Try using a picture of a frog and hopping. Or show a picture of a banana and make a banana shape with your body. You can pick an item for each topic you are teaching so students can get some alphabet review consistently throughout your lessons even when you are teaching other things.
