It’s almost Mother’s Day and it’s time to express our love and appreciation for mom. We’ve heard that mom enjoys handmade gifts, so we wanted to come up with something groovy that uses your actual handprint.
The best part? You don’t need a green thumb to give a beautiful botanical gift this year. All you need are some craft supplies and a lot of love in your heart, so let’s get started.
Things you’ll need
- Construction paper
- Paper plate
- Green craft paint
- Paint brush
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Markers
- Pencil
- Tissue paper
- Pompoms
Steps
First, make your cactus. Use some green craft paint to paint your hand and stamp it down on some green construction paper. Feel free to try different cactus-inspired colors, too. You might need some help for this next step: loosely trace around your hand with a pencil.
Once your handprint has dried, cut it out.
Now let’s make the plant pot out of construction paper. You can choose any color you like. We used a paper plate as a template to make a round pot. Trace or draw the pot shape with a marker, being sure that the widest part of your pot can accommodate the handprint.
Using a glue stick, glue the cactus handprint behind your plant pot.
Now it’s time to decorate! You can draw some prickly quills with a marker by making small lines all over your cactus.
We added some colorful pom poms and tissue paper squares to make the flowers. We wrapped the tissue paper squares around the eraser end of our pencil and dipped it in some white glue.
You can write or draw a special message to mom on the plant pot. Be sure to let her know how truly amazing she is and don’t forget to sign your name.
