Things you’ll need

- Plate
- Glue
- Popsicle stick
- Craft paint- various colors
- Stamping supplies ( fun foam stickers, cotton swab, jar lids, etc.)
- Toppings to decorate ( pom poms, sequins, gems, buttons, etc.)
Steps
First, let’s make our cone! You will need a shade of construction paper that looks like an ice cream cone and a contrasting or darker shade of paint.
To make the grid pattern on an ice cream cone, dip your popsicle stick in brown paint and stamp it onto your construction paper in criss-cross lines. It doesn’t have to be perfect, so have fun stamping! Once dry, use a ruler to make a big triangle and cut it out.
Next, you can make the ice cream! Choose construction paper colors that represent the flavors you want to make. Use your plate as a template to trace the top curve of the scooped ice cream, then draw a scalloped edge along the bottom. Cut it out.
TIP: If you’re happy with your scooped ice cream shape, use it as a tracing template with older children. Pre-cut assorted ice cream scoops for younger children or parties for quick assembly.
Have fun glueing your ice cream scoops to your cone from the bottom up.
Now for the fun part! Decorate your lovely ice cream cone with sprinkles. We set out some paint colors, cotton swabs and a foam stamp to get creative making stamp sprinkles.
Did someone say more sprinkles? Okay! We glued on some fun foam stars, small buttons and pom poms to make a pretty 3D effect.
Gemstones, pearls, and sequins make a very classy and sparkly ice cream cone!
TIP: be sure to use some white glue for larger adornments. These will take a little longer to dry.
If paper is more your speed, we love confetti and circles made with a hole punch.
No matter what supplies you have in your craft cupboard, they are sure to look fantastic on top of a colossal ice cream cone! Yummy!
