There’s something extra special about our first teddy bear, isn’t there? That first expression of love is so sweet and simple. Teddy bears are there for us when we feel happy, sad, silly, and scared. Whenever we need a hug, a teddy bear is there to do the job! So, let’s make a paper teddy bear craft and show our teddy bears some love.
Be sure to enjoy the video – and add the song “My Teddy Bear” to your preschool playlist, too!
Things you’ll need
- Construction paper
- Brown craft paint
- Fork
- Hole punch
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Black and brown marker
- Round head fasteners
- Circle- 6” diameter
- Circle- 5” diameter
- Circle- 3” diameter
Steps
First, use a fork dipped in paint to create a fuzzy teddy bear texture on two pieces of brown construction paper. Once dry, use a brown marker to trace three small, one medium, and one large circle onto one piece of paper.
Cut out the circles.
Use the second sheet of paper to make the arms and legs. Working on the horizontal, fold the page in half, and in half again, to make 4 equal rectangles. Cut them out.
Trim the large circle into an oval shape, and trip the medium circle to have a tapered chin.
To make the arms and legs, layer two rectangles together, painted sides inward. Draw the arm shape and cut out two identical, yet opposing, arms. Follow the same method to make two identical, yet opposing, legs.
Punch a hole on the top of each arm, leg, and the base of the head.
Place the legs, arms, and head onto the body. Mark the connection points through the holes onto the body with a marker.
Use a hole punch to punch the holes.
Use the round head fasteners to assemble the bear.
Glue the ears under each side of the head. Glue the bear’s snout by adding glue to the top of the circle and leaving the bottom flap to lie over the round head fastener. Use a black marker to draw the eyes, nose, and mouth.
To make a bow, draw and cut out a bow shape from a piece of colorful construction paper. Cut out two strips and glue them to the back of the bow.
Glue the bow in place. The teddy bear looks distinguished.
This craft is an adorable addition to your National Teddy Bear Day celebration, too! September 9th is #NationalTeddyBearDay.
