If we have any young painters and fans of outer space in the house, we have an out-of-this-world craft for you. Try out some fun techniques with paint to make a truly awesome painting. PRO TIP: Wear an old shirt or smock to protect your clothing and have fun!
Things you’ll need
- Some white paper
- One sheet of black construction paper
- Craft paint
- Scissors
- Jar lids, various sizes
- Pencil
- Paint brushes, foil, an old toothbrush
- Glue stick
Steps
Set up your pallet by choosing all of the colors you’d like to work with. Paint your base colors on your white paper.
-Stamp: Scrunch up some foil and dip it in paint. Stamp on top to get a marble texture.
-Dry Brush: Put some paint on a dry brush or a toothbrush and drag it on top. Leave the lines for a brushed effect.
-Layer: Layering wet on wet paint can create really cool swirls and patterns!
Once you’ve made some amazing paint techniques, set your paper aside to dry.
Stars: You can make a starry sky by dipping an old toothbrush in white paint and gently rubbing the bristles to splatter paint evenly on the black construction paper.
Stars another way: Dip both ends of a pencil in white paint and stamp it on your paper. PRO TIP: You can combine both techniques for lots of depth!
Trace some planets with a pencil using your jar lids as a template.
Cut them out and glue them down on your star background.
Wow! Look at your awesome galaxy! Nice job, everyone.
