When the Christmas lights and sparkly baubles are all up on the tree and everything is ready for Christmas but you want to keep the decorating fun going… it’s time for a paper plate Christmas tree craft! This paper plate Christmas tree is simple to make, and little ones will love decorating it with whatever you have on hand. You can use stickers, crayons, ribbon, markers, paint, glitter, jewels… anything you like. It’s a great time to practice colors and shapes too! Ask your little ones questions about the decorations as they put them on the tree, and let their imaginations run with Christmas abandon!
Things you’ll need
- paper plates
- green craft paint
- brown construction paper
- large popsicle stick
- hole punch
- clear craft glue
- glue stick
Decorations
You can use anything you like to decorate your tree! Here are the things we used:
- stickers
- ribbon
- glitter, jewels, sequins
- star shape
Steps
Paint a paper plate with the green craft paint and it leave to dry. For the tree trunk, paint the tip of a large popsicle stick brown. You could also just cut a piece of brown construction paper for the trunk instead!
Once the plate is dry, mark a dot in the centre of the plate and divide the plate into three pie piece shapes. Then cut the sections apart.
Make holes in each piece of the plate with a hole punch. Make sure to make an even member of holes so the ribbon and come in and out. Then string the ribbon through the holes, trim the ends and tape the excess onto the back.
Put the parts of your tree together by putting some glue on the tip of the triangle. Add some white craft glue to the upper part of the popsicle stick and glue it behind the tree.
Now it’s time to decorate your Christmas tree! Anything goes! We hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
