Spring brings wonderful colors, warmer temperatures and pretty flowers, all because of the rain! Teaching children about weather helps reinforce the seasons which explain how our amazing planet works. Here is a fun rain cloud craft that uses a few different tools and makes a beautiful wall or window display when you’re done. Have fun!
Things you’ll need
- 2 sheets of white cardstock
- Broken crayons
- Wax paper
- Iron
- Hole punch
- White or blue thread
- Pencil sharpener
- Bowl
- Blue marker
- Tape
- Glue
- Scissors
First, cut out a big fluffy cloud from your first sheet of cardstock.
Pre-soak your broken crayons in a bowl of water to easily remove the paper labels. Once the labels are removed, use a pencil sharpener to grate the crayons into shavings.
Cut out two sheets of wax paper the same size.
Sprinkle some crayon shavings evenly on one sheet of wax paper, leaving space around the edges. Lay the second sheet of wax paper on top.
Make sure your iron is set on the lowest setting. Starting from one side, quickly pat down the iron onto the paper until the crayon melts and both sheets of wax paper are fused together. Set aside your melted wax creation while it cools down.
Time to make some raindrops! Use your blue marker to draw raindrop shapes on the wax paper and cut them out.
Punch a hole in the top of each raindrop using a hole punch.
Tie some different lengths of thread to each raindrop.
Tape the threads to the back of the cloud and trim away any extra lengths.
You can make a cool 3D cloud by cutting out one or two more small clouds and attaching them with some glue.
To add the layers, cut out two strips of paper and fold them into a Z shape . Add some glue to the top and bottom of the Z shape to connect the clouds.
Hang your rain cloud craft in the window to see the beautiful effect of all the colors in the rain drops.
