This super cool rocket card craft is a great way to show your Papa Shark how much you love him. Plus, we think it will be a source of awe and wonder for years to come. May we suggest the message inside to be something inspired by outer space, like “Dad, you’re out of this world” or “I love you to the moon and back”? We know you’ll come up with something spectacularly stellar. Now, let’s get started.
Things you’ll need
- Construction Paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Hole punch
- Bottle cap
- White craft paint
- Red, orange, yellow tissue paper
- Printed photo
Steps
First, fold a piece of construction paper in half to make the card. We chose blue like the night sky for our card.
To make the nose cone of your rocket, cut a 2 inch strip of construction paper and roll into a cone shape.
Secure it with a dab of glue and trim the bottom flush. Pinch the sides so the bottom will sit flat against the card.
Now, let’s make the rocket fins! Layer two square pieces of paper together. Draw the fin shape on the top piece and cut them out together.
Glue the rocket’s nose and fins to the card, leaving about 4 to 5 inches in between for the rocket’s body.
To make the rocket, cut out a rectangle and fold it into a half moon shape with a flat side. This flat side is what you will glue to your card. But first, a few more steps!
Decorate your rocket! We cut and glued two strips of paper to the top and bottom. We used a bottle cap to cut out a window and glue a photo behind it. We made rivets with some yellow paper and a hole punch, glueing them in place.
To make the flames, layer and cut out some strips of red, orange, or yellow tissue paper. Glue them to the underside of the rocket, along the bottom edge.
Cut lines to make a fringe. Glue your rocket to the face of the card.
Cut out a moon shape and glue it in place.
To make the stars, dip the end of your pencil into some white craft paint and stamp stars all around. You can also use the pointed tip of the pencil to make smaller stars.
For the inside of the card, glue a lighter piece of construction paper inside. Write your special message for Dad!
