First, let’s make the headband that will hold our crown in place. Here’s an easy way to do it: take a green piece of paper and fold the long side about 2-3” in. Cut along the edge of the paper, then unfold and cut along the fold. Ta-da! These two equal strips of  paper will become our headband!

Glue one end of the two strips together and use it to measure the size of your head. Glue the other end together so it fits snug and comfortably on your head.

You can tell spring is on the way once the grass begins to show! Here’s a trick for making lots of grass for your crown at once: fold a piece of green paper in half and cut out two layers at once! Draw and cut out your blades of grass. Another great idea is cutting out a leaf shape!

Once you have your grass, fold them in half longways – this helps to add some shape and make them look like real grass!

Now it’s time to add them to our crown! Glue all the grass pieces around the outside of your headband. You can even try curling the top edge with your fingers to give it extra dimension!

Flowers are a wonderful part of spring, let’s add some to our crown! We’ll start with the stems. Cut strips from a green piece of construction paper – make them wider than you want your stems to be because we’re going to fold them in half longways and glue the two sides together. This makes the paper sturdier so the flowers stand tall in your crown!

We have a fun technique to make the most beautiful flower tops for our stems. Take a cupcake liner and fold it in half three times, so you end up with a cone shape. (If you do not have cupcake liners you can trace a circle shape and make your own circles – it would work the same way!) Cut the top of the cone (do not cut the tip) into a petal shape. Then unfold and reveal your flower shape! We did this with multiple circles and layered our flower petals for a special effect. Cut circles from colored paper to be the center of your flowers – this is a fun time to use the fun shaped scissors if you have them!

If you look around for signs of spring, you might see butterflies and ladybugs! Let’s make a butterfly to add to our crown. Fold a cupcake liner in half and cut out the shape of a butterfly wing. Open the fold to reveal your butterfly! Cut the body of a butterfly from black paper and glue it onto the wings.

Fold a cupcake liner in half and cut the butterfly shape out.  Next cut out a black center and stick to the top.

The sun is an important part of Spring! It makes everything warm so plants can grow! To make a sun for your crown, cut out a circle. Then cut a strip of paper into triangle shapes and glue them around the sun to make sun rays.

It’s time to put it all together! Attach your flowers, sun, and critters onto the green stems you made earlier and glue them onto your crown!
