Here Comes The Fire Truck! Play Set Craft

Here Comes The Fire Truck! Oo-wee-ooo! Oo-wee-ooo! We had so much fun creating this fire truck play set craft inspired by our song, Here Comes The Fire Truck, complete with our elephant firefighters! It’s made with things you might already have in your house, and we made a super easy resource to help bring your fire truck to life.

We created two versions of this craft: a simple version, and one that gets a bit fancy! Have fun! Oo-wee-ooo! Oo-wee-ooo!

Make sure your sides are all lined up, then glue and tape the images onto the tissue box!

Cut out the fires and cute cat that the elephant firefighters save in the video, and glue a piece of paper to the back so they stand up. To make an easy stand, cut out a triangle for each piece. Fold the triangle in half, and glue half of the triangle to the back.

This version also has a handmade hose and ladder you can make to go along with your fire truck! You can also make the elephant firefighter to go inside the truck!

Things you’ll need:

  • Tissue box
  • Printed Fire Truck Resource Sheet in full colour (or black and white to colour yourself)
  • Glue stick
  • White glue
  • Scissors
  • Four paper straws
  • Grey paint
  • Yellow yarn
  • Empty bobbin

Steps:

Print out the Fire Truck Resource Sheet. Cut out the pieces and trim to size so it fits the sides of your tissue box. Cut off the ladder and hose part of the print out. You’ll be making your own for this fancy version, you won’t need them. You might like to print on thicker paper for extra durability!

Cut off the top of your tissue box, but leave an inch at the top and bottom. Those parts are going to hold up your hose and ladder.

Make sure your sides are all lined up, then glue and tape the images onto the tissue box!

For the hose, tape the end of a length of yarn to an empty spool and wind the bobbin up! Wrap and tape some grey paper to the end of the hose for the nozzle. Glue the bottom of the spool to the back of the truck.

For the ladder, take two straws and tape them your work surface parallel to each other. These will be the long ends of the ladder! Cut two other straws to the width of the ladder for the steps. Pinch the ends of the steps to flatten, then glue the steps to the long ends of the ladder and let it dry!

Once glue is dry, paint your ladder grey.

Now it’s time to add in the details! We added a strip of yellow paper for the belt, and cut out black rectangles for buckles, as well as boots and a red firefighter’s hat! Using a marker, we added more details like a smile, eyebrows and eyelashes.

Finally, cut a small triangle at the bottom of their body to make two legs.

You can also make the other elephant characters from the Here Comes The Fire Truck video to complete the set!

We also had a lot of fun making a house for our elephant firefighters and fire truck to rescue, and trees to make the scene.

Here Comes The Fire Truck Play Set - Fancy Version

Our trees were made from a previous craft we made called Stand Up Tree Craft, and our house was made with construction paper as well as tissue paper for the flames. We made a little hole in one of the house’s windows, and layered red, orange and yellow tissue paper together, twisting up one end of the tissue paper to poke through the hole. It stays in place and you can arrange it to look like fire coming through the window!

Now you’re ready to save the day! Try using the play set to act out the Here Comes The Fire Truck video along with the song! We hope you enjoy our Here Comes The Fire Truck play set craft! Oo-wee-ooo! Oo-wee-ooo!
