Pencil Puppets

What can make school a little bit more fun? Pencil Puppets, of course! These fun friends with colorful hair are the perfect, personalised back to school craft, just in time to impress new classmates. They’re easy to make with a little bit of help from an adult with a glue gun or some white glue. You can even make a batch of Pencil Puppets for all of your friends as a back to school celebration gift. Put on a puppet show!

If you want to see a funny smile when it’s time to do some homework, read on for our easy instructions.

Things you’ll need

Pencil Puppets
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Fun fur or feathers
  • White glue or glue gun
  • Googly eyes
  • Pom poms
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Ribbons

Steps

Pencil Puppets

Cut a piece of fun fur one to two inches in length. Cut close to the weaved fabric to keep the fun fur fibres nice and long.  Add hot glue to one end of the underside mesh of the fabric and secure it to the pencil. Next, add glue along the bottom underside. Twist and stagger the fabric so the glue has contact with the pencil.

Tip* You can also use white glue. We recommend using a generous amount of glue and securing it with a clothespin while the glue dries.

You can use some pipe cleaners to twist a body and some arms and legs into shape.

Ribbon makes a sweet bowtie or scarf. Experiment with different types of googly eyes to get some neat looks.

Pencil Puppets

We made lots of Pencil Puppets for inspiration! We loved the way the pom pom bodies turned out, too! We used small pieces of construction paper for mouths and small pom poms for a different look.

Now the puppets are ready to put on a show! Are your Pencil Puppets comedians, or singers, or magicians, or storytellers?
