Sssss goes the snake! This snake craft really slithers and is so much fun to play with! You can decorate it any way you like, and create a beautiful snake with just a few things that you probably already have at home. It’s sssssssuper!
Things you’ll need
- construction paper (one sheet of paper can make two snakes)
- googly eyes
- glue stick
- markers or crayons, anything you like to decorate
Fold a sheet of construction paper in half lengthwise. Open it again and cut along the folded line to make two equal pieces.
Set aside one half – you can make another snake with it, otherwise you won’t need it. Fold the strip you are using in half, then open and fold the two outside edges into the centre line. You should be left with four equal sections.
The two sections at the centre of the paper will be the top of the snake, and you can decorate it anyway you like! We used dotters and markers. If you like, you can decorate one of the other sections for the bottom of your snake. Try looking at pictures of snakes for ideas of how to decorate them, or create a brand new kind of snake!
Once decorated fold the paper strip in half. Using scissors, cut lines from the folded edge leaving about one inch at the end of the paper – this will be the snake’s head. Cut parallel lines to the folded line and continue until you have reached the end of the snake.
Open up your paper and glue both bottom sections together to make a triangle shape with the cut sides on top.
Flatten the one inch at the top of your snake to make the head and round out the shape of the head by cutting off the corners. For the snakes tongue, cut out a strip of red paper with a V shape cut out from the tip. Glue it to the inside of the mouth. Then glue the eyes into place, and you are ready to slither!
Have fun slithering with your snakes!
