Try these ideas in the classroom or at home!
- Play this song in the background as you decorate your Christmas tree at home or in the classroom.
- If you don’t have a tree in the classroom, you can pretend with gestures as you sing the song.
- Draw a picture of a tree on the board and play the song. Pause after each verse so you can draw in the different elements that we sing about, and when you get to the end of the song, your tree decoration will be all ready to go.
- Try making a Paper Plate Christmas Tree craft. Each student can make their own craft and decorate the tree as they like, but encourage them to use a few of the elements from the song.
- Try making a homemade ornament to hang on your tree, like salt dough ornaments, or a pinecone Christmas tree ornament. Pick one to try and then hang your new homemade ornaments up on the tree!
- Some families have a real tree and some use the same reusable tree every year. Talk to your students about their Christmas traditions, finding differences and similarities in each one.
- Try talking about other holidays that are celebrated at this time and what traditions are a part of those celebrations, too!
